La Sartoria Italiana has created a zucchetto that not only reflects the essence for which it was made but has elevated the design to a superior level.

The Zucchetto is composed of an elegant silk blend material on the top portion and is lined with 100% fire engine red cotton material. Eight triangluar pieces are used to make up the whole zucchetto and a minute loop of material brings all the triangular pieces together and helps to take the zucchetto on and off your head with ease!

The zucchetto scull cap was traditionally purely practical. Clerics had a ring of hair removed off their head when they embraced celibacy. The zucchetto was a means to cover that spot and keep the head warm and retain body heat. From this practice stemed the role of identifying ecclesiastical rank according to color through the zucchetto.

You can see the colors in the folowing examples but also see a detailed picture of the inside of the zucchetto and really appreciate the cotton material that keeps your head warm.

A black zucchetto is traditionally worn by lower clergy. Priests and deacons are more likely to wear the black zucchetto.

A church purple zucchetto is traditionally worn by Patriarchs, Archbishops, Bishops. This church purple color has only been the official episcopal color since 1867, when Pius IX replaced the black zucchetto of bishops, the color previously common to all clerics below the rank of Cardinal.
