Born of a Roman noble family, St Benedict focused his early education on the subject of rhetoric – persuasive speaking. Soon he became concerned for the wellbeing of his soul and sought solitude. Many years of a prayerful and holy life, he soon was asked to become a leader and through his experiences he created the Rule of Saint Benedict. Although strict, these rules ask each of us to put our trust in God, that He will fill our hearts with love. To this day, many continue to follow the Rule of Saint Benedict and the Psalms that soothed his soul. Known as the Patron Saint of Europe and Students we celebrate his Feast Day on July 11th.
