Published in response to the indult granted on March 21, 1997, use of this appendix became mandatory in the dioceses of the United States beginning on All Souls Day, November 2, 1997.
This appendix provides the approved prayers and liturgical adaptations necessary for funeral celebrations involving cremation and serves as an important companion resource for clergy, funeral homes, bereavement ministries, and parish liturgical planning.
Please note: this appendix was created to supplement the previous edition of the Order of Christian Funerals. The older standalone rite and order related to cremation are no longer available separately, making this appendix an important liturgical resource for those using the earlier ritual edition.
