Sacred art carries more than beauty—it carries history, devotion, and generations of prayer.

These hand-carved wood statues from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, Texas recently came through our restoration department after years of wear had taken their toll. Likely carved in Northern Italy near Ortisei. At approximately five feet tall, these statues depict Saint Joseph holding his carpenter’s square alongside the Blessed Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus.

Over time, the original finish had become faded and yellowed, while age and environmental conditions had caused numerous cracks throughout the wood.

Because these statues had never undergone refinishing before, our restoration team was able to carefully strip away the aged varnish and paint layers, repair and fill damaged areas, and repaint the figures using vibrant traditional colors more in keeping with their original appearance.

Wood-carved statues are always especially meaningful to restore because each piece is inherently unique. The carving marks, details, and character of the wood itself give every statue its own personality and presence.

Today, the restored statues once again stand ready to welcome and inspire the faithful at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church—renewed while still preserving the craftsmanship and devotion that first brought them to life decades ago.

We are always honored to help preserve sacred art for future generations of the Church.
