Saint Francisco Marto was one of the three shepherd children who witnessed the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal. Gentle and quiet by nature, Francisco was only eight years old when Mary appeared to him, his sister Jacinta, and their cousin Lúcia.
After the apparitions, Francisco developed a deep love for the Blessed Sacrament, often spending time in silent prayer “to console Jesus for the sins of the world.” He also embraced sacrifices and penance for the conversion of souls. Though he died young during the influenza epidemic of 1918, his holiness and devotion continue to inspire the faithful.
His life reminds us that even children can live lives of profound prayer and love for God.
