Saint Edith Stein, also known as Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, journeyed through many stages of faith before becoming a Catholic and eventually a Carmelite nun. Born into a devout Jewish family, she later became an atheist before discovering Christ and entering the Church.
A gifted philosopher and teacher, Edith promoted the dignity and important role of women in education, society, and the Church. During World War II, she was arrested and taken to Auschwitz, where she was killed in 1942 for her faith and heritage.
Her life remains a profound witness to truth, courage, faith, and the dignity of every human person.
