The Byzantine Crucifix contains a wealth of meaning through iconographic art. At the center of the cross, Christ is represented as God Himself. He stands upon the cross, a volunteer to His suffering. At the top of the cross the Holy Napkin bears the imprint of Christ's face. Below that, angels hold the spear that pierced Christ and the vinegar-soaked sponge He was offered. Above Christ's head, the traditional scroll marked INRI is replaced with one reading "The King of Glory". The sun and moon sit at the ends of the crossbar, designed to remind us that they refused to light the world as Our King was crucified. At the foot of the cross, the Virgin Mary and Saint John stand. The skull and bones at the foot of the cross represent Golgotha. This Crucifix, rich with imagery, would make a meaningful gift. The Byzantine Crucifix measures 7-1/2 inches by 1-1/4 inches by 12 inches. It is made of resin that has been hand-painted.
