Using a very special wood-based resin material, each piece is hand-poured and will resemble the hand-carved original so closely that even the woodcarver cannot tell the pieces apart. A small corps of artists in other countries—each trained in the Russian techniques of decoration and story painting—meticulously hand paints each piece to the exact likeness of the original. Amazingly, each artist paints free-hand without guidelines. The painting is usually added in three to nine layers, one on the top another.
